CCTV Maintenance Is Important To The Client
If you own a car you wouldn't drive it without performing any periodic maintenance on it would you? When you purchased your new car, you were provided a list of maintenance items that needed to be periodically preformed. These maintenance items will insure that your car is performing at the level that it was designed to perform at. If you own a CCTV system you also must know that CCTV maintenance is also important and must be preformed.
CCTV Maintenance falls into two categories, preventative and repair. When a CCTV system is purchased the provider will generally provide a maintenance schedule to the client for maintenance of the CCTV system. The client can preform many of these maintenance items however most of them can and should be completed by the provider of the CCTV system.
One basic item for maintaining a CCTV system is cleanliness. Cameras, recorders, monitors and other components can and do get dirty. This dirt or dust can and does degrade the performance of the CCTV system. If a camera is mounted outdoors, the hooded area of the housing, over the lens makes a highly attractive location for spiders to build a nest or web. This nest or web will degrade the picture provided by the camera. The camera housing will in all probability have environmental controls inside of it. If the fan to cool the housing or the heater to warm the housing is not functioning the performance and life of the camera can be degraded.
Recorders whether they record the video on tape or digital must be cleaned and checked for proper functions. In many cases if the recorder is not in a secure location can have the functions on the recorder inadvertently changed by an employee. The functionality of the recorder was designed with the client's specific needs in mind and these settings are important.
CCTV camera systems are like any other mechanical device. They do break down. Cameras stop working, recorders stop functioning, monitors die. The repair functions provided by the CCTV system provider alleviate these problems. The provider keeps records as to exactly what equipment is at each location. The qualified technicians on the provider's staff can quickly and easily replace the equipment. The downtime of the CCTV system is minimized by a proper CCTV maintenance contract with the CCTV provider.
Most CCTV maintenance can be covered by a contract between the client and provider. The maintenance whether preventative or repair will be covered under the contract and should a component of the CCTV system fail, the replacement cost can be included in the maintenance contract.
CCTV maintenance can not be overlooked when a client selects a CCTV system for their location. This maintenance is as important as the maintenance for the automobile that the client drives. Proper maintenance provides a CCTV system that meets the needs of the client for an extended period of time.
